Job Description

About the Firm:

If you are passionate about storytelling through design, working with existing buildings, and making a positive impact in communities, consider joining Belinda Stewart Architects (BSA) in Eupora, Mississippi. As a woman-owned, woman-led firm with over thirty-six years of architectural service and more than 130 design and preservation awards, BSA is recognized for expertise in historic preservation, community engagement, and creative, hands-on work with buildings and places that matter. We are proud of our small-town roots and reputation for community-focused projects across the Southeast, and we continue to offer opportunities for meaningful professional growth and contribution on a wide variety of project types.

About the position:

We are seeking to hire a full-time licensed architect (or close to licensure) with five to fifteen (5-15) or more years of architectural and project management experience, who wants to do meaningful work with historic buildings, communities, and places. Our projects range from historic rehabilitation and adaptive reuse to new construction in historic contexts, throughout Mississippi and the Southeast. Our ideal candidate is an individual who values/shares our passion for service, historic preservation, and adaptive reuse; is highly motivated; is a strong leader; technically proficient; and organized. You are also someone who:

  • Has earned a bachelor's degree in Architecture
    • Has an advanced degree, experience, or strong interest in preservation (a plus!)
  • Is fluent in AutoDesk software (AutoCAD & Revit)
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Is able to multitask, bring projects in on schedule, effectively communicate with clients to achieve goals, & collaborate in-house with team members
  • Has prior experience with public clients (local, state, and federal)
  • Has strong architectural design, documentation, project management and technical skills
  • Enjoys figuring out how historic buildings work and how they can serve new purposes
  • Has experience with renovation, rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, or work in historic districts
  • Can move comfortably between field investigation, documentation, design, and construction administration
  • Enjoys research and learning the stories behind the buildings
  • Wants increasing responsibility for projects, clients, consultants, and contractors
  • Is curious, collaborative, resourceful, and willing to get into the details
Preservation experience is welcome — but it isn't everything.

We're seeking a great architect who aspires to become an exceptional preservation architect. BSA offers opportunities to develop deep expertise in preservation, such as:

  • Historic Building Investigation
  • Rehabilitation and Adaptive Reuse
  • National Register & Tax Credit Projects
  • Traditional Building Materials
  • Existing-Building Assessment
  • Preservation Planning
  • Community-Based Design
  • Construction Administration

We also embrace digital documentation and emerging technologies, including 3D scanning, as part of our work.

A chance to come home.

We especially welcome architects with Mississippi or small-town roots—including MSU graduates and professionals who have built their careers elsewhere. This position is located in our office in Eupora, Mississippi.

Why BSA?

BSA is a preservation-focused practice devoted to buildings and places that matter to their communities. Our architects are investigators, historians, designers, problem-solvers, advocates, and project leaders. We're looking for someone who wants to grow into a key role in the firm, with opportunities to lead significant preservation and rehabilitation projects across Mississippi and the Southeast.
