About Me
Writing ValuesLast...
allows me to explore my foundational beliefs and values regarding citizenship and humanity with friends and colleagues. I want to focus on principles and values that bring us together, or would bring us together, if practiced and not just preached.

A few words about me
I had the great privilege to lead Air Force, Joint, Allied and Coalition teams of amazing military, civilian, and contract personnel over my 31-year career in the Air Force. During my final assignment as Director of Civil Engineers for the Air Force I was responsible for installation support to 183 bases around the world as well as the organizing, training and equipping of our 51,000-person Active, Guard, and Reserve military and civilian civil engineer workforce. I retired from the Air Force in 2018 as a Major General.
While growing up in Midland, Texas, attending Texas A&M University, and serving in the Air Force, I was fortunate to have many family, friends, teachers and wingmen who helped instill in me foundational principles and values. My current work allows me to remain engaged in three of my passions: mentoring and coaching students, professionals and executives; addressing national security gaps and challenges; and being a member of great teams.
Why values and principles?
I’ve often said that foundational beliefs enable me (and you) to withstand the storms of life that occur. Well, I think we are in a pretty big storm right now and need to ensure we are anchored on foundational principles. Some of us, including me, may need to tie ourselves back to core beliefs, even as others are trying to persuade us to loosen the rope and walk away from beliefs we know to be true.

Why Now?
I am writing now because I am disturbed by what I see and hear across all of society. The divisive nature of debate, seeming inability to agree on facts, and constant push to agree with all positions of a single “side” is pulling us apart in ways unimaginable after 9-11. The demonization of political opponents and pursuit of power at all costs undermine the very fabric of our nation.
We have become “us” and “them”. It often feels like with a single disagreement someone immediately becomes a “them” to be defeated. This division is amplified by social media, the ability to “choose” to hear only news that we agree with, and our nation’s adversaries. Friendships have been lost and war-time, life-saving battle buddies pulled apart. We can and must do better.
My response, this blog, is not about our politics. It is to help us anchor our actions on timeless values and principles that allow us to live lives of integrity and unity.
