HVAC Journeyman - Chiller Mechanic

$55–$65/hr + Union Benefits

We are partnering with a global leader in commercial HVAC solutions seeking an experienced HVAC Journeyman – Chiller Mechanic to service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and industrial HVAC systems throughout the New York City.

This role is ideal for experienced union journeymen with a strong background in chillers and commercial HVAC equipment who are looking to work with advanced technology while receiving ongoing factory training and long-term career development.

Responsibilities

\n
• Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC equipment.
\n
• Service chillers, air handling units, rooftop units, fan coils, cooling towers, boilers, water-source heat pumps, and related mechanical systems.
\n
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections to identify potential equipment issues before failures occur.
\n
• Troubleshoot electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical system issues independently.
\n
• Perform pipefitting, brazing, component replacements, and equipment repairs.
\n
• Complete warranty service, equipment testing, and operational verification.
\n
• Assist with rebuilds, retrofits, and major equipment overhauls.
\n
• Download and analyze controller programs and chiller operating data to optimize system performance.
\n
• Mentor apprentice technicians and provide technical guidance in the field.
\n
• Complete service documentation, time reporting, inventory tracking, and work orders accurately.
\n
• Follow OSHA regulations and company safety procedures while maintaining a safe, organized work environment.
\n
• Participate in scheduled on-call rotations and ongoing technical training.
\n

Qualifications

\n
• High school diploma or GED required.
\n
• Journeyman status through the local union required.
\n
• 5+ years of commercial HVAC service experience.
\n
• Strong experience servicing commercial chillers and applied HVAC equipment.
\n
• Experience troubleshooting electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical systems.
\n
• Proficiency with pipefitting and brazing.
\n
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
\n
• Ability to participate in an emergency on-call rotation.
\n

Preferred Qualifications

\n
• Associate degree or HVAC technical school certification.
\n
• EPA Universal Certification.
\n
• OSHA 10 Certification.
\n
• First Aid / CPR Certification.
\n
• Previous experience mentoring junior technicians.
\n
